It's All About the User
Everything we do in the Digital Communications major focuses on the "user". We develop and design our products, interfaces, business plans, and pretty much anything based on what our clients are specifically looking for.
You see, there's this thing called Human Centered Design (HCD). It takes principles of information architecture, usability, visual design, and iterative design to create a final product that completely satisfies the client's needs.
Everything Is Integrated
The core classes and concentrations of DigiCOM are interwoven. Students apply their knowledge of HCD and usability testing to any work or concentration within the major.
Often times, projects require knowledge from all of the concentrations to be developed successfully. Successful designs with written information need a touch of the communications concentration to successfully convey information, or a call to action. Programming can be used to create an effective database and add value to an internet e-commerce business. All of the pieces of the major work together in harmony.
How We Do Our Thing
We test things. It's as simple as that. Once we have a great idea and flesh out some prototypes, we test them to make sure that they work the way we intend them to.
If not, we go back and make changes. This ultimately ensures that our users are getting exactly what they want. This process of testing and retesting is called iterative design.
