One of her boyfriends laced her pot with heroin, starting her path to addiction. She did not choose to take heroin, she was forced onto the path of addiction. On July 25, 2015 Dawn was found unresponsive in her apartment, she was rushed to the hospital by her mother and sister. She was brain dead by the time she arrived at the hospital and eventually passed away.
Her family describes Dawn as an all-around great person, someone who would give you her shirt off her back. She would feed homeless animals and give money to the homeless she saw. She witnessed a fatal car accident and tried resuscitating the hit pedestrian until they eventually passed in her arms. Dawn was a great person taken from the world too soon by addiction.
Below are poems that Dawn has wrote paired with digital art done by Dan Bennett.
Coincidentally, we had two families present at this Day of Making event and along with our project's founder, Adam, all had a tattoo in memory of their lost loved one located in the same spot. Adam reflected, " Sometimes you are put in the right place for things like this to happen. We are becoming a stronger community through this work and we are saving lives. If you would like to become part of this project, please reach out and we will make it happen."
