Course:
DCOM-395: Illustration
Software:
Adobe Photoshop
Medium:
Digital
Description:
For this project, the class was tasked with creating a set of three editorial illustrations that discuss or combat a common social issue. I decided to base my illustrations around the ongoing heroin/opioid epidemic that is affecting the United States, as it is a topic I've become quite familiar with in my work throughout my college career. My illustration more specifically targeted Purdue Pharma and their exacerbating of the epidemic.

The first version of the project. This was my initial composition and what I still consider my most ambitious. This illustration brings to awareness that many individuals turn to heroin to cope with their addiction to painkillers which they can no longer afford.

The second version of the project. This composition brings to light the fact that many individuals who turn to heroin are at the end of their rope and cannot cope with their withdrawal symptoms from opioid addiction and need to turn to heroin not out of desire, but out of desperation.

The third version of the project. While it is my most simple, I found this to be my most enjoyable composition. It highlights that there is a darker side to the painkillers Purdue Pharma is prescribing even though it may seem bright and positive on first glance.
